Plant Sales (UK ONLY)

For interested Customers we do have a few Plant options for 2019.

Plants will be available when ready from our own propagation during May to September. We do not grow huge volumes of plants and we will run out of availability quickly. Although we often take orders earlier in the year the plants will not be ready until late spring/summer. WE CONTACT ALL CUSTOMERS BEFORE SHIPPING!

All plants are shipped by courier services and because this is seasonal we CANNOT TAKE MIXED ORDERS of Seeds or Products along with Plant orders.  Please place any Plants as a separate order of Plants only. Any mixed orders with other products will not be accepted. Plant orders are only accepted for UK delivery addresses and surcharge areas may require additional shipping charges.

Dahlia imperialis or Giant Dahlia 1 litre plants җ

If you are into pretty Dahlia flowers then this is not for you! But - if you are into giant tree size foliage then Dahlia imperialis takes the cake. It is semi hardy and from our own experience will stand a normal winter left outside, regrowing from the root stock again in late spring the following year. In the UK probably 10ft is the best you may see in a season but in it’s natural habitat 10 metres is quite normal for 9 months growth! It does flower with pretty single pink flowers but by November the frost will probably have got there first. Has to be seen to be believed with huge 4" diameter stems and massive leaves.

Ensete montbeliardii 1 litre plants

A recent re-introduction into the UK by the late David Constantine this Ensete montbeliardii was originally documented in 1930 but fell out of cultivation. An upright, elegant Ensete with thicker leaves that are a bit greener without the same wonderful deep red colouring as maurelii on the front but a stunning purple reverse. A very tall plant once it gets going with a red midrib to the very long thin leaves, the attractive red strip also continues down the stems. This is a rare collectors item and a must have for any exotic planting. Second year plants after over wintering in a warm frost free greenhouse and given good conditions will reach 10ft to 14ft.

Fatsia 'Spiders Web'

Variegated Japanese Aralia 1 litre plants җ җ

A lovely new form of Fatsia mainly grown for its large variegated foliage although clusters of white flowers are also produced in summer. The large 30cm icing dusted foliage is particularly attractive making a wonderful specimen plant for the exotic garden, eventually reaching 2m tall. Prefers some light dappled shade so useful for a dark corner and said to be hardy to -15C but I think some foliage damage would be inevitable at low temperatures without protection.

Solandra maxima or Chalice Vine 1 litre plants

A few years ago we acquired this modern hybrid of Solandra maxima that flowers readily on smaller plants. However it is a fast growing very large tropical climber, only really suitable for large conservatories to be seen at its best. The viine bears massive yellow flowers the size of dinner plates and an excellent specimen can be seen at Wisley in their tropical House. The large yellow cup shaped flower gives the plant its common name.

Tetrapanax papyrifera 'Rex'

JP3953
!

Rice Paper Plant 3 litre plants

This fabulous plant is a bit like a giant Fatsia japonica. Huge leaves to 3ft across, wonderfully eye catching and one of the most best plants for exotic effect. In all but the mildest and most sheltered gardens the leaves will be damaged by frost in the winter and best cut off in the following spring. It is fast growing maybe 3ft in a year but not suitable for windy or heavy frost prone locations. Suberban locations like a London garden should be ok but in countryside frost likely locations it will require some winter protection. Once established hardy to about -10c but much less as a small plant. Our form offered here is 'Rex' and the best of the clones balancing hardiness and vigour.
